Seeing the huge potential of laptop users in Indonesia, three students of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (TI FT-UB) initiated an innovative and multifunctional laptop bag product. In addition to promoting ergonomic elements, this bag is designed with the wisdom of local culture typical of Malang.

“From the data of the Ministry of Communication and Information, the number of computer users in Indonesia is 31.4% of the Indonesian people. Where as many as 20.8% of this number are laptop users. The rest are desktop and tablet PC users,” said team leader of TIK’S laptop bag makers, Rais Sulaiman.

Beside Rais, the team consisted of Bachtiar Ilham Nurdin and Muhammad Roy Ali Saputra under the guidance of lecturer Raditya Ardian Wiandri, ST., MMT.

This 2017 class student explained, laptop bags are usually in the form of backpacks. Lack of this type bag is an overload that can cause back pain. The back will experience pain if carried too long and can also cause hunching.

“So storing a laptop in a backpack is not ergonomic for the body. Then we made a specific laptop bag. But this tote bags  type also have many lacks,” he said.

The disadvantages include being easily damaged on the carry if carrying heavy loads. In addition, because there is no protector for the edges, so sometimes the laptop can experience blisters. Then today’s laptop bags are also generally made of materials that are not resistant to water.

“Our bags are designed to overcome these problems. For the design of laptop bags we also use batik cloth from SME in Malang which will embellish the design of laptop bags. The design of the batik cloth also has elements of Malang culture such as masks and the beauty of Malang,” said Rais.

This bag is an innovative way to introduce Indonesian culture. In addition, it can have a positive impact on SME’S engaged in selling typical Indonesian products such as batik, puppets, and so on.

TIK’S Laptop Bag won 3rd place in the 2019 Student Cooperative Fair National Business Plan competition organized by KOKESMA Sultan Agung Tirtayasa University on November 7-9, 2019.
