Industrial Engineering (TI) Students of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) of the Integrated Practicum (PT) II course display the design of their industrial products on iDESIGNX (Industrial Design Exhibition) 2017 on Monday (29/May/2017).

A total of 96 students who are divided into 19 groups participated in activity that take the theme “OFFICE & SCHOOL EQUIPMENT”. Student works are include G-pen ballpoint, Johan’s School Table, JOY lounge chair, Comfible office desk, Yukolala sharpener, Rancle Backpack school bag, DW-Proof bookcase, Relpat stapler, MEDIPEDI folding table, ARMOUR locker, Nevele. , Paper Cutter paper cutter, Q-Board ergonomic keyboard, Archible drawing board, TRODOC document trolley, Foldable Whiteboard, Suspension File Holder, COMS office chair and Patch THD-01 tape cutter.

On average, each group is working from the beginning of the semester to produce the work before it is displayed in this exhibition. Processing processes include customer identification, product specification design, research, concept development, and industrial processes.

“We have prepared it from the beginning of the semester,” said one of the exhibitors Allen.

To boost students, the committee who’s consisting of laboratory assistants of Statistics and Quality Engineering (SRK) and the Work Design and Ergonomics Laboratory (LPKE) provides prizes in form of coaching money, merchandise, and tour packages.

The first to third winner was determined by the lecturer’s assessment. Assessment points include student understanding, aesthetics, and product feasibility. Meanwhile, in addition to those winners, one team will be chosen as favorite champion which will be voted by the visitor.

“We have often delivered in class that we should not make a product concept which we ourselves are not interested in buying,” said The Head of Industrial Department, Ishardita Pambudi Tama, ST., MT., Ph.D when opening the iDESIGNX 2017.

The exhibition crowded with visitors, there are many lecturers and students interested in seeing or ask for direct explanation from the group about how their products work.

From the committee’s report, within two hours no less than 447 visitors attended the exhibition which has been held for the third time. “It is difficult to vote, the works displayed all are good,” said one of the exhibition visitors, Diezka.

After undergoing lecturer appraisal session, the winners are group 3 (JOY waiting chair) as the first winner with 81,04 poin; Group 14 (Archible drawing table) as the second winner with a score of 80; and group 11 (Nevele college) as the third winner with a score of 79.8. Then from the voting students and lecturers got group 9 (folding table MEDIPEDI) with a total vote of 66 votes as the favorite winner.

Chairman of iDESIGNX Executive and SRK Laboratory Chairman Debrina Puspita Andriani, ST., M.Eng congratulated the winners. This Kumamoto University alumnus explained that iDESIGNX exhibition became one of the components of PT II course assessment. It is expected that students understand the design and working mechanism of the products made.

“From the evaluation of the teachers, the students’ enthusiasm increased with the exhibition of products,” she explained. (and/mic)
