Leading mobile telecommunication operator in Indonesia, PT. Telkomsel agreed to establish cooperation with the Department of Industrial Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (TI-UB).

This cooperation includes giving a guest lecture by PT. Telkomsel at TI-UB and sending TI-UB students to intern in Telkomsel.

MoU signing was signed by General Manager (GM) of Youth & Community Area Jawa Bali PT. Telkomsel I Putu Endra Diputra with the Dean of Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT, Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at the TI-UB Building Auditorium.

I Putu Endra Diputra said that his party enthusiast with this cooperation. Because Telkomsel wants to contribute significantly to the young generation.

“It can be imagined if the younger generation is given the knowledge and experience as early as possible, then the impact will happen as early as possible,” he said.

In addition to guest lecturing and student internship, it is possible to hold cooperation between canteen in TIUB with PT. Telkomsel.

“We are also trying to explore cooperation with the canteen. For example, customers who use TCASH facility (electronic money service from Telkomsel) will get a special discount,” added Manager Youth & Community Telkomsel Regional East Java, Patrice Richard.

Then, Patrice continued, guest lectures are planned to be held at least once in each semester. While the internship students will be given a quota of 20 students every 2 months. Thanks to this cooperation, TI-UB students get priority.

Patrice also invites TI-UB students to join Telkomsel Apprentice Program (TAP). TAP is a 3-4 month apprenticeship program from Telkomsel to introduce students to the telecommunications industry and contribute to it. This activity opens opportunities for students to have training sessions and project work for students.

While the Dean of FT-UB Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT in his speech expressed his appreciation for the establishment of this cooperation.

According to him, the program that is done due to the cooperation between the department with alumni and Telkomsel showed that TI-UB has a good relationship with alumni and is a good breakthrough with the industrial world out there.

“This introduces a new color to the students. Along with our program to be able to provide a good example in implementation to our students,” he said.

After signing the memorandum of understanding, the event continued with guest lecture session with the theme of Digital Entrepreneurship in Industry 4.0 by  I Putu Endra Diputra.

In his, presentation Endra conveys the importance of a value in an innovation. The trick is to look at the job to be done point of a problem.

Then the solution to the problem can be searched through the ideas or inspiration that arise in the environment or the people around. The term is brilliance borrowing. Solutions or ideas that must be tested first before being thrown into the market.

The guest lecture by PT Telkomsel is piqued student interest. From the committee’s report, there are 252 registrants in just 2 days. Registrants are also not limited to TI-UB Department only.

“We have to do the selection because the quota for this guest lecture is limited to 175 students,” said OyongNovareza, ST., MT., Ph.D. The Head of TIUB in his report. (and/mic)
