1President of the Indonesian Automotive Institute (IOI), Ir. I Made Dana Tangkas, M.Si, visited and gave a guest lecture at the Department of Industrial Engineering (TI) Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at the 6th floor Auditorium Industrial Engineering Building.

The man who also serves as Director of PT.Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (PT.TMMIN) presents the material on “Rural Car Program”. Rural cars are a cheap rural public transport policy undertaken by the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and IOI.

“From three years ago we began to design rural vehicles made by our own youth,” said Made in front of the guest lecture participants.

In addition to supporting the mobility of village production, the development of rural car industry is expected to contribute to the increase in gross domestic product (GDP).

“So if we want to be an advanced and prosperous industrialized country, GDP needs to reach 16,500 US $ per capita per year. While currently we still at 3500 US $ per capita per year,” he explained.

If the industry is not encouraged and prepared with a strong foundation, continued Made, then Indonesia will tend as a user community. The selling price of this rural car is in the range of Rp. 60-80 million with various variants. Vehicle design can be adapted to the daily activities of villagers who are mostly engaged in agriculture and livestock.

Made also invites UB academic community to contribute and participate in rural car development, at least for Malang Raya area. Head of TI Department, Ishardita Pambudi Tama, ST., MT., Ph.D., in his speech said that this guest lecture is a good opportunity to gain knowledge given the experience of resource persons who have experience in the automotive national manufacturing industry and also in Asia.
